The ATHENA Leadership Model was developed by ATHENA International through a grant by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation in 1982. This model identifies eight distinct attributes that are reflective of women’s contributions to leadership: authentic self, relationships, giving back, collaboration, courageous acts, learning, fierce advocacy, celebration and joy. These personal traits combined with the strongest aspects of traditional leadership: taking risks, assertiveness and hard work, are the attributes the ATHENA award honors. The Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce has hosted the ATHENA Award in Denver since 1997.
Gutterman Griffiths was honored to have Sheila Gutterman receive the ATHENA Award in 2014 and as a Finalist in 2013.
